Anyone can lay a slab flat on a dry day. Whether it’s still flat in five winters comes down to what went in underneath and whether the water was thought about first.

How much does a new patio cost in Huddersfield?

It depends on size, the paving you pick and how much digging out and levelling the garden needs — a flat rear garden is a very different job to a sloped one needing a retaining wall. We come out, measure up and give you a written price with the work broken down, free of charge.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. We come and look at the garden, talk through what you want and send a written price. No charge, no obligation, and we don’t chase you afterwards.

How long does a garden take?

A straightforward patio is usually a few days. Artificial grass on a prepared base is often one to two days. A full transformation with levels, paving, lawn and planting can run two to four weeks. We give you a realistic timescale with the quote rather than an optimistic one.

My garden slopes — is that a problem?

No, it’s normal round here. Huddersfield gardens are rarely flat. Slopes get handled properly with retaining walls, sleeper beds, split levels and steps rather than a wedge of extra mortar under one end of the paving.

What goes underneath a patio or artificial grass?

Dig out to depth, then a compacted stone sub-base laid and whacked in layers, then the laying course. Most paving and astroturf that fails hasn’t failed at the top — it’s failed underneath, because someone skipped the depth or the compaction.

Is artificial grass any good with dogs?

Yes, and it’s one of the most common reasons people ring us. It drains through, it doesn’t turn to mud in winter and it can be hosed off. The important part is the base and the edge fixings, which is what stops it lifting or rippling later.

Do you take the old garden away?

Yes. Spoil, rubble, old slabs, turf and rubbish all go with us. The paving gets washed off before we leave, too.

Do you do driveways as well as gardens?

Yes — resin bound and block paved driveways, laid on a proper sub-base with the drainage and edging done first. Same team, same standard as the back garden.

Can you do the lawn and the patio in one visit?

That’s the best way to do it. Levels have to line up and drainage has to work across both, so planning the paving and the grass together means no awkward step, no gap along the joint and one price for the lot.
